England beat India to lift the ICC Women’s world cup title at Lord’s in London. The Mithali Raj led team played extraordinary cricket in this tournament and surely deserves a pat on their back for their undying spirit and true passion.
The performance of the women’s Indian team in this tournament has taken this sport to the next level and has let people sit and admire the effort of our courageous superwomen. The team showed great effort throughout the tournament; even though it was the first time they found themselves in the situation where they were so close yet so far from the World Cup.
Punam Raut and Harmanpreet Kaur shared a 95 run stand for the third wicket and even when Harmanpreet Kaur got out, it looked like India would get to the target of 229 runs. But the situation went horribly wrong after Raut’s wicket fell. Veda Krishnamurthy could not hold a falling batting lineup together and India ended up losing their last seven wickets for 28 runs. The areas where England was superior to India on that day were Experience, Fielding, and Pressure.
The nervousness that Mithali Raj felt seemed to be the one that was shared by the entire women’s team. Every time a new batter came in brought in the nervousness with her. Those nerves, in the end, cost them the match and the world cup.
Yet the entire nation acknowledges their efforts put in by the Indian women cricketers. The match was a nail biting final as both the teams gave their all to win the match. The women in blue gave their best and presented a remarkable tenacity and skill through the world cup. This team has woken everyone in the nation to women’s cricket in India. Although the Indian women cricket team lost the match but surely have won million hearts by displaying their relentless efforts.
We salute your spirit!
