The news of shuffling India’s cricket team coaching partners has been abuzz for awhile now. The BCCI has today announced another series of selections for the Indian team which is geared up for upcoming Sri Lanka tour.
Recently, the BBCI appointed Ravi Shastri as the head coach, who today announced his “core coaching team” who will be responsible to coach the Indian team for the next two years.
Ravi Shastri has appointed Bharat Arun as the bowling coach, while R Sridhar was appointed as the fielding coach.
In a media interaction, Shastri revealed that his idea and strategies were clear. He had always wanted this team. However, what is still ambiguous is the role of Zaheer Khan and Rahul Dravid in the team training.
As a matter of fact, Zaheer Khan was earlier appointed as batting mentor, while Rahul Dravid was appointed as the bowling mentor.
Shastri expressed his gratitude to the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) for bestowing the job on him. “I am honoured to be the head coach of Indian cricket team,” Shastri added.
Bharat Arun was appointed in the tenure of Ravi Shastri as a former India and Tamil Nadu medium-pace bowler Bharat Arun. Bharat was appointed in 2012-2014. Now, he will be reappointed on a two-year period ending 2019 ICC World Cup, for the same peirod until which the Sanjay Bangar will continue as assistant coach.
As a matter of fact, the Indian team has not had a bowling coach since June 2016. To appoint the new Indian coach, a four-member committee was set up, which also took a decision on the additional appointments.
The BCCI took the final decision of appointing Arun and Bangar. Not only this, they extended Sridhar’s contract. The BCCI took its final decision at the headquarters in Mumbai by the chairman of the Committee of Administrators (CoA) Vinod Rai after hearing to the recommendations of the four-member committee.
