What is Good Friday? Is Good Friday really good? Well, it is. It was the day when Jesus was crucified and died. It is the Friday falling before Easter.

Good Friday is a Christian holiday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, but it is not a federal holiday in the United States. The day is observed by paying high respect and idolization of Christ for his selfless service and sacrifices. This is a festival celebrated across the world.

If you are curious to know how Good Friday is good, it is because it is believed that Christ died in 33 AD for the sake of humanity. It is the day when goodness overpowered hatred when humanity achieved victory over violence. The humankind is the linking bridge between God and mortals. Christ was charged but remained silent during his interrogation by the High Priest.

In the solemn oath, the High Priest asked, ‘I adjure you, by the Living God, to tell us, are you the Anointed One, the Son of God?”  “You have said it, and in time you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Almighty, coming on the clouds of Heaven,” Christ said.

A couple of days after Christ’s death, he was resurrected from the dead on Easter Sunday.

There are two major reasons why Friday was prefixed with the good:

  1. The word “God” was used interchangeably with “good”.
  2. Because the day was considered as pure and holy.

The Good Friday is also used interchangeably with terms like Holy Friday, Great Friday, Black Friday and Easter Friday.

People fast, meditate and introspect, they think about Christ and his sacrifices towards humanity.
