Friday, December 14 was another day when the Congress leader Sachin Pilot appeared to be happy after Party’s (Rahul Gandhi’s) mandate for Cheif Minister in Rajasthan. After churning for 3 days, Rahul Gandhi decided the CM for Rajasthan. Later, a press conference organized by the Congress make the declaration, where Sachin Pilot cracked the “Crorepati” joke. He said, ‘Who knew that both of us will become Crorepati?’ FYI, Rahul Gandhi chose Mr. Pilot as deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan.
On Tuesday, as votes were counted in Rajasthan, the victory was not as emphatic as Sachin Pilot and the Congress had anticipated. The party’s tally stopped at 99, one short of a majority. That made it critical for the party to make a careful choice, with the national election in mind.
Ashok Gehlot was first handpicked for Rajasthan by Rahul Gandhi’s father Rajiv Gandhi. He considered Gehlot as a skilled political manager. The son of a magician, Mr. Gehlot is in charge of several party panels and training. Ashok Gehlot, who is known for his sardonic humor, a qualification critical to the party, as it preps for the national election just six months away.
As far as the national election campaign is concerned for the Congress party, they can rely only on the former AICC general secretory (Ashok Gehlot). His magic was commendable in Punjab elections of 2017. Mr. Gehlot is considered to be the only reliable senior leader in the Congress house. The Pilot won’t be able to handle this grand old craft.
