As the education department of Rajasthan is strengthening by the day, more constructive developments are coming to the fore. The Rajasthan government has directed the Rajasthan University (RU) to provide 1% reservation to Gujjars and four other communities for admission in the university.

The reservation will be made under the category of Most Backward Classes. This category will include five other castes along with Gujjars – Banjara, Gadia-Lohar, Raika and Gadariya. reservation to Gujjars

This development is in the wake of unending demands of obtaining a sub-categorization of the OBC and 5% reservation within the OBC quota. The five castes in the MBC category have been given the benefit of 1% additional reservation. reservation to Gujjars

Earlier, the Rajasthan government had given a 5% reservation to the OBC category. This could have led to increasing the reservation window for OBC to 26% but did not come to pass as the high court turned down the proposal three times, citing that the 50% limit of reservation of Supreme Court was being surpassed.

According to a source “We have received the circular and VC will approve it very soon then the benefit will be provided to the mentioned communities very soon. We are bound to follow the orders of the government and been working towards this.”

After the recent direction by Rajasthan Government to increase the reservation to Gujjars and four other communities by 1%, the RU vice-chancellor was issued a circular by the higher education department on Tuesday. Although, the vice-chancellor has not yet signed the circular and given it a nod, it is most likely that he will.

Talking in terms of the stats of Rajasthan University, the MBC will be having access to 270 more seats in the Rajasthan University from the total of 27,000 seats in the constituent colleges.

The Rajasthan government has been a constructive and all-inclusive government which has been continuously striving to integrate the policy of ‘benefitting one and all’. Through its astute and discerning governance, it has been able to inculcate a feeling of “We Are One” across different classes and castes of the society. reservation to Gujjars
