With an aim to promote the birth of girl child in Rajasthan, the state government has planned to develop parks labeled as Beti Gaurav Udyan in one of its kind project. Talking about this project, Special Envoy and Advisor to state Devendra Agarwal said that the plan of developing these parks is to communicate the message that girls play an important part of the society and their birth should be celebrated.
Sex ratio-at-birth
As per the 2011 census, there were 888 females per 1,000 males in Rajasthan. Besides, the health department revealed that there was a 42-point increase in the sex ratio-at-birth in the last five years. As of 2015-16, the sex ratio-at-birth was 929 females per 1,000 males.
Beti Gaurav Udyan project
The Beti Gaurav Udyan project was announced by CM Raje for 18 cities out of which land has been allocated for 15 places and the work is also in progress. Reportedly, the project will serve two purposes of fulfilling the social objective of promoting the birth of girl child and of developing a green cover in all these places. These parks will have amenities for entertainment and sports to promote tourism as well.

Amenities at the parks
Talking in detail about the parks, these will be much more than regular gardens. The area would include a green cover, Landscape Park, senior citizen’s park, children’s park, herbal garden, flower garden, yoga garden, jogging track, cycle track, acupressure track, open gym, and place to feed birds.
Moreover, there will be a game zone, play area for children, cafeteria, water pond with boating facility, open theatre, art gallery, and common utility. The entry for girl child will be free in these parks and they will be encouraged to take part in outdoor sports. Also, the open theatre will be utilized to promote dance and play while the art gallery will showcase the achievements of female sportspersons at national and international levels.
Development of the parks
As per the reports, 25% of these parks will be developed through public private partnership while 75% will be developed though community participation and Corporate Social Responsibility. In total, these parks are being planned at 18 cities namely Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Kota, Bhilwara, Abu Road, Udaipur, Bikaner, Sikar, Barmer, Sawai Madhopur, Bhiwadi, Pali, Bharatpur, Chittorgarh, Alwar, Jaisalmer, and Ganganagar.
The area allocated for Beti Gaurav Udyan ranges from 5 to 50 acres, depending upon the location. All these parks will be based on a different theme. For example, Kota Park will have adventure sports while Abu Road will have tourism theme and Barmer is going to have a clubhouse theme with games like table tennis and badminton.
