The Rajasthan Animal Husbandry Department is managing a whole lot of responsibilities for the cattle breeds. Right from their health to saving them from extinction, the government is taking the issue quite seriously. Much like providing healthcare to humans, animals also need to be taken care of and the state government’s work is clearly indicating its proficiency at handling the issue.

Here is how the Rajasthan Animal Husbandry Department ensuring a healthy livestock for Rajasthan:
- A breeding farm has been established for the breeds like Raathi, Geer, Thaarparkar, Kankrej, Saahiwal and Maalvi. In this farm, advanced breed of bulls will be prepared so as to promote cattle breeds.
- Under the government scheme of Pashudhan Nishulk Aarogya Yojna, the sick animals will be taken care of. For this, 129 varieties of medicines as well as surgical consumables are being supplied free-of-cost.
- In around 2560 Village Panchayats, Animal healing centres as well as Integrated Livestock development centres in 1000 Village Panchayats have been established through private sector. Through these centres, the activities of animal husbandry department like artificial conception, vaccination, pet insurance, castration of rejected breeds, and training of Gopalaks is being carried out.
- In order to protect the cattle from serious diseases, the government has set the target of 100% vaccination twice a year, since 2014.
- Rajasthan Livestock development Board is providing pet insurance to all types of cattle at subsidized rates under the Bhaamashah Pet Insurance.
- Several provisions have also been made in the lines of the excise department in order to prevent cattle smuggling.
The Rajasthan Animal Husbandry Department is making efforts to improve the economy as well as protect the cattle breeds which are on the verge of extinction. Cattle play a very crucial role for the livelihood of farmers and village. Hence protecting the cows and buffaloes is ultimately helping out the villagers.
