Amidst the widespread rumours of salary hike of Indian cricketers, another major rumour notes that the salary hike will be 100% for all the domestic players.

This is the detailed bifurcation of BCCI’s annual revenue.

    • International players – 13%,
    • Domestic players – 10.6%

A total of 26% revenue is been distributed amongst the players. The residual is allotted to women and children.

The demand for salary hike was first presented by Virat Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri. Last year Kohli made a total of Rs 5.51 crore for 46 matches, which is now expected to be hiked to 10 crores next season. Nonetheless, Kohli has multiple brand endorsements and IPL to bank on.

A source privy to the development said, “Senior cricketers are certainly going to get a 100% raise and even domestic players would get the same percentage increase.”

The BCCI will continue to maintain 70% of its revenues intact even after the salary hike. Another board official noted that if the cricketers are the reason BCCI is earning this revenue, why can’t they increase their salaries. “Since, these cricketers are the reason for BCCI’s revenues, can’t the board afford another Rs 200 crore for their salaries?” he said.

The bottom line is to do what it is overdue. The domestic cricketers are anticipated to get major hikes.

The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) has been toying with the idea of infusing a sum of Rs 200 crore to the existing corpus of Rs 180 crore in 2018 to facilitate salary hike in the next season. The proposal will be first presented to the BCCI’s general body very soon.

Until then, we can only awe over Virat and Anushka’s wedding which was itself a very opulent affair, given the location and couture. The cricketer is spending lavishly after making the salary hike demand. Smart enough. Isn’t he?
