The state government has decided to give Jaipur International Airport (JIA) a makeover through an upgradation plan for which it has allocated Rs 1435 crores.

Owing to the construction and upgradation works, the passengers might have to confront certain difficulties at the airport.

The JIA, which is spread over an area of 18,000 sq mt will be upgraded to become a stellar platform for seamless delivery of aviation services. A German company has been roped in for this purpose. Additionally, a sum of Rs 35 crores has been allocated toward the makeover of the existing Terminal II.

Airport director Jaideep Singh Balhara said, “We had invited bids from global firms and a German company has been awarded the project monitoring & consultancy (PMC) for the new terminal which is going to be spread over 1.25 lakh sq mt, nearly eight to nine times bigger than the existing one. The new facility will be in line with international standards and the Airport Authority of India (AAI) will spend Rs 1,400 crore for the same.”

The airport will have a new terminal which will cater to both domestic and international flights. “The arrival lounge will be equipped with two more conveyor baggage carousels along with one in departure. This would be completed by December. Besides, a parallel taxi track has also been planned for which we have 65% land. But we require 15 more acres towards the north to improve the runway efficiency. We have requested the state government for the same,” Balhara added.

The upgradation work by the German company will start in March and therefore the airport will be shut from March 1 to 24 from 10.00 hrs to 18.00 hrs and from March 24 to May 31 from 22.00 hrs to 06.00 hrs. The flight companies have already rescheduled their flights accordingly.

The tentative time for the completion of the project is three years i.e. 2022 beginning. A new Rajasthan is sure emerging, a better Rajasthan is not a distant dream anymore.
