The incredible Jaipur Smart Mission Ltd (JSML) cycle track project will now have to be downscaled. The JSML has proposed to construct a 50km-long cycle track at various locations in the city.

The project was proposed to be taken up in two phases. In phase I, the cycle track was to be developed on JLN Marg, between Albert Hall and Jawahar Circle, which is a 9-km stretch.

Even after preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for phase-I, the JSML will construct a track in 3-km stretch between Albert Hall to Trimurti Circle.

Sources close to the development said, “Initially, we will only construct 3-km sample track. Funds of Rs 10 crore has been reserved for the phase -I,” said a JSML official.

Even the JDA officials have not shown enthusiasm for developing dedicated track on JLN Marg and other areas claiming the road width is less,” the source added.

As all good things are first objected, this project is objectionable by the JDA which feels that construction of this track will severely affect traffic movement on these roads.

Additionally, the Pink City is also planning to initiate a Cycle distribution system. Greenolution, a firm based out of Delhi has been roped in for this project.

As reported earlier, Jaipur will house 20 docking stations, from where public can pick up and rent bicycles. This will ensure that bicycles are put to use more than motorized vehicles.

As per the scheme, one can rent a bicycle from docking stations that will be set up at 20 public and tourists locations in the city. The project will be developed in phases and JSML will launch the scheme initially at five stations in various localities.

These docking stations will be laid out at Central Park, behind Vidhan Sabha, in front of SMS Medical College Hostel (JLN Marg), New Gate and Trimurti Circle.
