Indian Army soldiers crossed the LoC on Monday morning and killed 3 Pakistani soldiers in the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This was a counter attack by the Indian Army in which 3 Pak soldiers were killed while 1 was injured. It took place in 12 Division of the 59 Baloch Unit in PoK.

Reportedly, this move was made in retaliation to the ceasefire violation by Pakistan on Saturday that killed 4 Indian Army personnel. Talking about the Indian Army personnel who lost their lives, they were identified as 32-year old Major Moharkar Prafulla of the 120 Infantry Brigade, 34-year old Lance Naik Gurmail Singh from Punjab, and 30 year old Sepoy Pragat Singh from Karnal.

This is the first time after Surgical Strikes in Uri that the Army has crossed the LoC in order to retaliate and avenge the killing of Indian troops.

Earlier, the Indian forces never initiated the attack and stayed peaceful but in the past 6 months, they have been instructed not to fall prey to the attacks by the Pakistani troops and the Border Attack Team of Pakistan. However, violating ceasefire is nothing new for Pakistan.

On December 19, as revealed by Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir, Pakistan had violated the ceasefire 771 times along LoC in Jammu & Kashmir and 110 times at the international border. Till date these violations have led to at least 30 killings including 14 Army personnel, 12 Civilians, and 4 BSF personnel.

Earlier in 2016, there were 449 incidents of ceasefire violations whereby 13 security personnel and 13 civilians lost their lives. Besides, 99 security personnel and 83 civilians were seriously injured. In September 2016, 19 Indian soldiers were killed in an attack in Uri and in order to retaliate, the Indian Army crossed the LoC and conducted surgical strike in less than two weeks of the attack.
