Elsewhere, Congress may be questioning the Balakot airstrike, but Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) has introduced it as the Class iX social science chapter that students will be using from the academic session starting July.
The highlighted text without any headline has been inserted in the chapter “Rashtriya Suraksha evum shaurya parampara (National security and tradition of valour)” by the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education.
The content deals with India’s strike on a Jaish-e-Muhammed camp in Pakistan following the Pulwama terror attack and talks about the role of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthman.
Here’s a paragraph from the chapter- “After an attack on defence forces by terrorists in Pulwama, the IAF on February 26, 2019, with 12 Mirage-2000 fighter jets, attacked terrorist camp in Balakot. The next day, an F-16 Pakistan fighter jet violated Indian air space and attempt to attack (military establishments). IAF directed its “Braveheart” Wing Commander Abhinandan, who flew a MiG-21, to respond. He displayed his excellence by shooting down a plane which was better than the jet he was flying.”
“Falcon Slayer” Abhinandan now posted at Suratgarh air base
It seems like Abhinandan Varthman has a deep connection with Rajasthan as he took over his assigned duties in Suratgarh Air Base in Sriganganagar district.
Interestingly, this is not the IAF officer’s first tenure in Rajasthan as previously he had also served in Bikaner. Son of an IAF personnel has also studied in the state when his father was posted here.
Coming to the word “Falcon Slayer”, the brave pilot received new patches- “Falcon Slayer” and “AMRAAM Dodger”.

For killing an F-16 fighter jet he has been decorated with the title- Falcon Slayer and earned the squadron the title ‘AMRAAM Dodger’, for successfully evading the AMRAAM missiles of the PAF’s F-16s.
