As the second phase of Gujarat Assembly Elections came to an end on Thursday, a slew of exit polls have already predicted a clear cut win for BJP in the state. Out of the 8 exit polls, 7 are suggesting that BJP would register a victory over Congress by securing 100 seats out of 182 total seats of Gujarat Assembly.
Although this would mean that BJP is not getting to secure 150 seats as pledged by BJP President Amit Shah, the party has definitely secured a wining position. Talking about Congress, the party has not been able to perform at par with BJP but it has definitely made some progress. This electoral battle in Gujarat has been creating headlines from the last month.

Exit Polls Figures
Where Times Now and Republic TV are predicting a total number of 113 and 115 seats for BJP respectively, the polls by Today’s Chanakya predict 135 seats in BJP’s favour with 47 seats going to Congress. India Today has predicted 99-113 seats to be secured by BJP while Congress is likely to be limited somewhere between 68-82 seats. Furthermore, the polls predicted by ABP suggest 64 seats for Congress while NewsNation’s figures have calculated 70 seats in favour of the party.

Right from the rallies, campaigns, road shows, speeches, and even promotional ads, both BJP and Congress have garnering a lot of attention. It’s quite evident that BJP has a strong hold in the state as it has been ruling here for almost 2 decades. On the other hand, this time Congress is also contesting the elections with full conviction as Rahul Gandhi has recently become the Congress President.

Sonia Gandhi has taken a back seat and is planning to retire post Rahul Gandhi’ declaration as the party president. In this scenario, Rahul is being regarded as the hope of Congress. These elections are quite vital for the Gandhi scion considering Congress’ plan to promote him in the 2019 elections. Also, the image of the party and the faith of public is important to be restored, which is apparently going to be huge responsibility for Rahul Gandhi.
Accuracy of Polls
Several media houses and agencies conduct interviews and surveys shortly after people cast their votes. Although it’s quite difficult to give out accurate numbers, the agencies try their best to be as close to the real figures as possible.
Even if the count of seats is not guaranteed, the popularity of the parties and the winner or loser can be accurately predicted by the polls. With BJP dominating most states of the country and its strong position in Gujarat, it’s quite possible that the party may register a victory by defeating Congress.
