Aanganwari is an ideal place where women and children can get a home-like environment. In which health, early education and nutrition is obtained. This is a land of blessings as it also houses ICDS, a hub for providing integrated child development services to children and women. It is a friendly platform where groups of women / mothers exchange their thoughts with other rural workers, thereby promoting women and child development.

Run by Aanganwari workers and assistants, Aanganwari proffers nutritional supplements for women and children in the initial childhood education and health related services. In a nutshell, Aanganwari helps to sensitize the consciousness in the public against the safe delivery and care of pregnant women and nutrition and nurturing services and counselling at home.

In the Rajasthan Budget 2018-19, there was also a substantial increase in honorarium and bearing entire amount of premium on Insurance schemes of more than 1.84 Lakh Aanganwari Workers under WCD. This step is implemented to ensure that the Aanganwari workers lead a healthy lifestyle and comfortable living. The Rajasthan government is determined to increase the living standards of one and all.

Here are the main objectives of Aanganwari:

  1. Improve the nutritional and health status of children of 0-6 years age group.
  2. Creating the basis for proper psychological, physical and social development of children.
  3. Decrease in rates of child death, sickness, malnutrition and children leaving the middle school.
  4. To provide effective coordination between the concerned departments to promote child development.
  5. Nutrition-Health Education is to train mothers to meet the general health and nutritional needs of children.

Here are highlights of the Aanganwari and how they have progressed over the years since its inception

  • Nandghar yojana to commence for making Aanganwari equipped with art-of-the-state technology and societal support.
  • An innovative scheme to adopt Aanganwari has been introduced. This step is aimed at garnering support and funding from donors, societal trusts, etc. Organisations or donors can adopt the Aanganwari for five years. The scheme has been massively successful. Over 4,318 Aanganwari centres have been adopted till date.
  • Toys bank, Books and education material bank have been made available at the Aanganwarisince June 16, 2016 as a part of the Aanganwari Chalo Abhiyan.
  • As a part of the Abhiyan, over 90,000 new students were registered under the education beneficiaries. More than 8 lakh ABC books, 28 lakh copies, pencils, erasers, 7 lakh uniforms and 15 lakh toys have been collected at the Aanganwari from the contribution of societies.

Nutritional supplements are provided to Children of 6 months-6 years, pregnant women and teenage girls, while Immunization is provided to Children 0-6 years old and pregnant women. Health checks are conducted for 0-6 year olds, pregnant women and teen girls. Not only this, Nutrition and Health Education delivery is organised for 15-45 year old women, teenager girls. Most importantly, school education is provided to Children 3-6 years old.
