Advanced ambulances flagged off

Rajasthan Health minister Kalicharan Saraf flagged off 22 ambulances equipped with ventilator and defibrillator on Tuesday.

Ventilator and defibrillator are most commonly-used life-saving equipment. If reports are to be believed, over 1400 ambulances plying under the health department do not possess the critical equipment.

In critical cases, the patient will now receive advanced life support ambulance. The ambulance appliances will be at the disposal of the patient. The availability of ambulance will also ensure safer transportation. Currently, basic life support (BLS) ambulances are plying and are not as effective as advanced life support  (ALS) vehicles.

This is not the end. The health department has planned the launch of two more ALS vehicles in December.

The ambulance is targeted to serve patients which get directed to higher health centers like S.M.S Stadium. The ambulance will be stationed at the district health centers.

“These ambulances have ventilator and defibrillator which will be helpful in the safer transportation of critical patients from a hospital to higher centers for treatment,” said Saraf.

The Health Department has also clarified that the ambulances will only be available for those patients who require the life-saving equipment like ventilator and defibrillator. The ambulances will also have two nursing staff who are specifically trained in critical care to ensure they provide the best services.

There is also special provisioning for special times when there are two critical patients waiting to be transported simultaneously. In such a scenario, a board headed by the principal medical officer or medical superintendent with three members including cardiologist, general physician, and anesthesia specialist will take a prudent call.

Various preparations and revamping activities are in progress as the health department is making many changes to ensure that the patient receives immediate treatment and is not made a subject of unnecessary delay in treatment.
